Parallel Parking

The Examiner will stop you two car lengths behind a car. Then ask you to pull alongside the car and reverse and park behind it within two car lengths.

Select first gear and find biting point, do a six point check, if clear pull alongside the vehicle so you are about half a car length past it.

Apply hand brake and select reverse gear, do a six point check, if clear reverse back slowly until the end of the vehicle is level with back seat then turn the steering wheel one turn 360 degrees to the left. Stop and look around, if clear continue back until you are at 45 degrees to the parked vehicle. Give the steering wheel 360 degrees turn to the right, stop and look around, reverse the car slowly towards the kerb. Look at the left hand door mirror. You are looking for your door handle in the mirror. When the door handle looks as though it is sitting on top of the kerb not on the face give the steering wheel a second turn to the right 360 degrees slowly let the car come alongside the kerb. When straight stop, neutral and hand brake.
